While the SDG Summit was the “what” conference, the last two days have been the “how” conference. By 2030, we need to end extreme poverty. We need to have made a dent on all poverty. And we should be well on the way to eradicating it altogether.

As I mentioned at the opening of our conference, we need to go from billions to trillions when it comes to development finance. The Global Partnership provides a strong platform for bringing together the wide range of actors to make that happen.

The urgency of sustainable development is evident in all countries. Shifts in wealth, power and growth challenge traditional development models. At the same time, we see new players, new ideas and new sources of finance. Developing countries are increasingly using taxes and remittances to finance their own development. In Africa alone in absolute numbers, tax revenues dwarf official development assistance by more than ten times.

I am delighted to be in Warsaw to celebrate with you this 20-year milestone in the friendship and working partnership between the OECD and Poland. The past 20 years have been a success story for Poland: the country has grown faster than any other European economy and Poland’s economic progress has been accompanied by significant social accomplishments.

I am truly impressed by the large number of countries (99) that have joined this initiative and who are around the table today. More than half are not OECD or G20 members: 55% of this Ad Hoc Group. This in itself is a success, particularly in the context of the new Inclusive Framework on Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) launched a few months ago, and which already includes 87 countries and jurisdictions.

Health at a Glance: Europe is a diagnostic tool. It presents key indicators of health and health systems in 36 European countries ─ including the 28 EU member states, five candidate countries and three European Free Trade Association countries ─ and is intended to help these countries assess the relative strengths and weaknesses of their health systems.

It is an honour to welcome you to the third annual OECD Eurasia Week. Your participation, here, among so many high-level delegations, is testimony to the growing co-operation between the OECD and Eurasia countries. The enthusiasm we witness today affirms the OECD’s role as a ‘global policy network’, engaging with members and non-members, on topics that matter for sustainable economic development.

Last month marked the eighteenth anniversary of the OECD's permanent observership of the UN General Assembly. Turning 18 is always a special milestone. For us, this coming of age coincides with a strengthening of the relationship between the OECD and the UN family which we are all proud of.

This event marks a great opportunity for the OECD and our Member countries to forge an operational partnership with the innovators and drivers of economic success – business. By joining forces we can disseminate the results of our research across new fora and redouble our common efforts to put policies to promote inclusive growth into action. But this discussion also marks a fantastic opportunity for business!
