OECD Forum on Green Finance and Investment

We are already living with the alarming consequences of global warming. Weather events this year — record-breaking heatwaves, wildfires, heavy rains, major tropical storms, diminishing Arctic sea ice — have given us a taste of what will happen if climate change intensifies.

Meeting of the OECD Council – Address by Colombian President: Mr Iván Duque

2018 has been a momentous year for Colombia. Five years after opening official accession talks, it successfully completed its accession process to the OECD and was invited by the Council to become one of our members last May. As you know, Colombia will become the 37th Member of the Organisation following the deposit of its instrument of accession to the OECD Convention, which we hope will happen very soon.

Meeting with the members of the Council with H.E. Ms. María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés, President of the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly

Sustainable economic and social development are central to peace, and to the prosperity of current and future generations. The landmark UN agreements on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals, and the Paris Climate Agreement provide us with aspirational frameworks to work towards these goals, but we still have a long way to go to deliver on the promise of leaving no one behind.

Achieving responsible, effective and inclusive multilateralism

The rising tide of protectionist measures, which we are witnessing, is harmful and costly. Recent OECD data has estimated that each dollar of new tariffs costs global households 40 cents, while each dollar of tariff reduction adds 90 cents to global household incomes.

OECD and China: strengthening multilateralism, partnering on international standards

Inequalities of income, wealth and opportunity continue to divide our societies and fuel political uncertainty and turbulence. In the OECD, the income gap between the top and the bottom deciles is now almost 10 times, up from 7 times in the 1980s. We have to reverse these trends with growth that is more inclusive, which empowers people and places that have been left behind.
