Given the very pressing and very present challenges, it may seem paradoxical that we would gather today to discuss the world in 2050. But it is precisely because of the challenges that we face today that we need to be thinking ahead, so we are not caught by surprise, so we are not left behind, so we are not overwhelmed by successive crises we don’t fully understand.

Developing knowledge-driven health systems will depend on our ability to use health data more effectively. The OECD is leading the way on managing the potential of health data to improve clinical practice, research, health system management and surveillance. The Council Recommendation on Health Data Governance that you released today reflects international consensus on a set of guiding conditions to achieve these important public goals.

The speed and intensity with which the OECD’s collaboration with Peru has increased in just a few years has been remarkable. Peru has made the best use of our ambitious Country Programme, launched in 2015.

After this meeting, the Prime Minister and I will sign a Memorandum of Understanding which will see the OECD working evermore closely with Slovakia – and for Slovakia – as it builds on its achievements to increase transparency and strengthen the fight against corruption. This is another positive example of how Slovakia is engaging actively with some of the recommendations we made in our last Economic Survey.
