This paper presents new information on activity-related eligibility criteria for unemployment and related benefits in OECD- and EU-countries in 2017, comparing the strictness of “demanding” elements built into unemployment benefits across countries and over time.

Profiling tools, which assess the job finding prospects of jobseekers, differentiate jobseekers likely to become long-term unemployed from jobseekers likely to find work quickly. Thereby they help to deliver employment services more efficiently.

Today, the OECD released the 2018 edition of its Skills for Jobs Database. The new wave of data covers 40 countries, with the recent addition of 9 countries – Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Mexico, Peru, Turkey and the US. Data are now also available at the regional level for several countries (Belgium, Hungary, Italy, Poland, and the UK). Moreover, the results are newly available at the sectoral level.
