Education and training policies need  to introduce “significant changes”, i.e. innovation, to adapt to an evolving socio-economic environment and improve its relevance, quality, coverage and efficiency. In order to design and implement evidence based policies, policy makers need reliable data. However, measuring innovation in education and training is a challenging task, which is in its infancy. The OECD’s Centre for Educational Research and Innovation (CERI) under the framework of the Innovation Strategy for Education and Training, in conjunction with the OECD’s  Directorate for Science, Technology and Industry, and the Centre for Research on Education and Lifelong Learning (CRELL) of the European Commission- DG Joint Research Centre, organised a one day brainstorming session to get a better handle on how to measure innovation in education and training and push the research agenda forward on this challenging task.
