Global Forum Secretariat supports Tunisia in strengthening its confidentiality and data protection framework for the automatic exchange of information

01/11/2022 - A delegation from the Global Forum Secretariat visited Tunis from 25 to 27 October 2022 to support Tunisia in strengthening its confidentiality and data protection framework for the implementation of the automatic exchange of information. A wrap-up meeting with Mr Ahmed Khedher, Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance, and Ms Fatiha Gharbi, Director General of Taxes, concluded this technical assistance mission.

Tunisia is committed to implementing the standard of automatic exchange of financial account information for tax purposes (AEOI) by 2024. This standard requires Tunisia to take appropriate confidentiality and data protection measures. This must be reflected in a legal framework that ensures the confidentiality and appropriate use of the information exchanged, as well as an information security management framework that adheres to internationally recognised standards or best practices.

The Global Forum's technical assistance programme to Tunisia is funded by the European Union. Tunisia is supported by Switzerland and the Global Forum Secretariat in a pilot project for the implementation of AEOI.

The Global Forum is the leading multilateral body mandated to ensure that jurisdictions around the world adhere to and effectively implement both the exchange of information on request standard and the standard of automatic exchange of information. These objectives are achieved through a robust monitoring and peer review process. The Global Forum also runs an extensive capacity-building programme to support its members in implementing the standards and help tax authorities make the best use of cross-border information sharing channels.
