Conference on Investment for Development: Making It Happen

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil , 25-27 October 2005

Organised by the OECD Investment Committee in partnership with the World Bank and hosted by the Government of Brazil with the support of the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES), the conference on Investment for Development: Making It Happen took place from 25-27 October 2005 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The conference was structured as follows:

25 October 2005 - OECD-Brazil Roundtable entitled “Investment for Development – The Brazilian Experience” ;
26-27 October 2005 - OECD Global Forum on International Investment (GFII) entitled “Putting the Policy Framework for Investment into Action”.

The aim of the OECD-Brazil Roundtable was to draw lessons from Brazil’s experience with improving the enabling environment for investment and sustainable growth, including the new Brazilian legal framework for public-private partnerships in infrastructure.

The principal objective of the 2005 GFII was to strengthen the developing country perspectives on the Policy Framework for Investment (PFI) and practitioners' input into its individual chapters. The PFI is being developed under the aegis of the OECD Investment Committee in partnership with non-OECD countries, the World Bank and other organisations to help countries at different levels of development to attract more and better investment. Participants were invited to explore the various avenues through which the PFI can best be put to use by governments and partners.

Participants to the conference included high-level policy makers and analysts working on investment climate issues, global and regional organisations, business, labour and other civil society representatives.
