The overall objective of this stream of work is to provide policy advice to help governments guide the development and deployment of eco-innovation in the context of the implementation of Green Growth strategies.

The work covers a variety of topics:

• It compiles information on strategies in place in OECD countries and selected non-members to support eco-innovation. (see the publications below).
• It explores the linkages between policies to support-eco-innovation and market structures. It addresses such questions as how to support green R&D when technological trajectories proliferate; or how to take account of competition issues when supporting eco-innovation. This is a major theme of the publication Better policies to support eco-innovation.
• It explores coordination issues surrounding eco-innovation, for instance the interlinkages between national and local initiatives (How much coordination is required? What are the best ways to achieve coordination?), or the opportunities for international cooperation in eco-innovation (for instance, when is the right time to set up an international standard for CCS?).
  

Publications

The Environmental Technology Action Plan compiles roadmaps developed by members of the European Union to support eco-innovation (see http://ec.europa.eu/environment/etap/index_en.htm). The OECD is developing country profiles for non European OECD members and selected non members: see the country profiles below. In addition, analytic work supports policy recommendations. Global Forum on Eco-Innovation

In November 2009, the OECD organised a Global Forum on Environment focused on Eco-innovation. The objectives of the Global Forum were to take stock of what we know on policies to support eco-innovation (based on work done at the OECD and elsewhere), and to discuss policy challenges.
