In mid-2015 all attention will be focused on the Third International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD), taking place in Addis Ababa in July. The task is monumental: to gather the necessary financial (and other) resources to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a universal and ambitious agenda covering social, economic and environmental sustainability.
Ahead of the Financing for Development Conference, the 2015 Global Forum on Development will explore how different streams of finance work together and country experiences in managing them. Across the OECD, various tools can be used to improve the enabling environment in support of domestic and international resource mobilisation, including the smart use of official development assistance, and effective development co-operation, as well as the use of tax, investment and climate policies.

Multi-dimensional Review of Myanmar Vol. 2

The second volume of the Multi-dimensional Review of Myanmar was presented to Deputy Minister of National Planning and Economic Development, Daw Lei Lei Thein, and government officials in Nay Pyi Taw on 13 January and at a public launch in Yangon on 14 January.
The report provides policy recommendations for modernising the country's economy in order to produce higher-value goods for export. Improving Myanmar's agricultural sector by building up food-processing activities and related services and a supportive financial system are important first steps. Today, only 2.5% of loans in Myanmar go to the rural sector despite the fact the sector accounts for 30% of gross domestic product (GDP) and two-thirds of jobs.
The report will serve as the starting point for the third phase of the review in which a broad range of Myanmar stakeholders will discuss and prioritise the recommendations, and identify the necessary steps for implementation.

Revenue statistics in Africa: Five more countries
join the initiative

Three months after the first meeting in Addis Ababa, at the invitation of the Moroccan authorities and with backing from the European Union, the project’s partners and delegations from a number of African countries met again in Rabat, Morocco from 9 to 11 February 2015, to make preparations for the joint publication of their tax revenue statistics on an annual basis.
The aim of the Revenue Statistics in Africa project is to enhance the comparability, quality and accessibility of data on a voluntary basis, using a time-tested methodology and process. The initiative draws on the OECD publication Revenue Statistics – an annual report that since 1972 has presented a unique compendium of internationally comparable tax revenue data built upon the success of similar partnerships between the OECD and regional organisations in Latin America / the Caribbean, as well as in Asia / Pacific.
The project is one of the core priorities of the post-2015 Development Programme and will improve the transparency, reliability and comparability of revenue statistics between African countries, but also with other regions of the world.
