This hybrid regional workshop was organised with and hosted by the Regional Centre of Excellence of the Financial Services Commission of Mauritius. It brought together policy-makers, market regulators and private sector representatives from African countries and included a presentation of the recently revised G20/OECD Principles of Corporate Governance, which provide globally recognised guidance to strengthen national corporate governance frameworks.

The workshop included three sessions:

Opening remarks (Thursday 18 May, 13:00-13:30)

Session 1 - The G20/OECD Principles of Corporate Governance: Global Relevance and Main Revisions (Thursday 18 May, 13:30-14:15)

This session will focus on the G20/OECD Principles of Corporate Governance, the main international standard for corporate governance, and their global relevance. The Principles have recently been revised and the main revisions will be presented and discussed.

Session 2 - Corporate Governance Frameworks in Africa: Challenges and Opportunities (Thursday 18 May, 14:30-15:30)

This session will be a roundtable exchange between African countries on corporate governance frameworks. Speakers will discuss evolutions in policies and practices in corporate governance and capital markets, as well as challenges and opportunities.

• Ms Aruna Radhakeesoon, Chairperson, National Committee on Corporate Governance, Mauritius

Session 3 - Sustainability and Corporate Governance (Friday 19 May, 13:00-15:00)

This session will be a panel discussion on sustainability and corporate governance. Sustainability is a key focus of the revised G20/OECD Principles of Corporate Governance, with new provisions aiming to help companies better manage climate-related and other environmental, governance and social (ESG) opportunities and risks.
