The Camões – Institute for Cooperation and Language and the OECD Development Co-operation Directorate hosted an International meeting on Triangular Co­-operation in Lisbon on 19 May 2016.

With the Addis Ababa Action Agenda and the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, we have all committed to shaping a new global development co-operation architecture. Partnerships are at the heart of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals with goal 17, on the means of implementation, emphasising the importance of triangular co-operation for achieving all the other goals.

This international meeting provided an opportunity to share knowledge and experiences on management practices, funding mechanisms and tools to communicate the value added of triangular co-operation. It brought together practitioners and officials from the different partners involved in triangular co-operation. In particular, participants discussed:

• The myths and realities of triangular co-operation.
• The critical factors for successful triangular co-operation.
• Actions and messages to promote triangular co-operation.

The OECD presented the interim results of its 2015 survey on triangular co-operation to which many participants had provided responses, including providers of south-south co-operation, United Nations agencies and regional development banks.

Discussions at this conference were also informed by previous analytical work carried out by the OECD with a broad range of partners. The conclusions will be brought to relevant global events including the second high-level meeting of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Co-­operation in Nairobi in November 2016 with a view to encouraging further debate and joint action in the area of triangular co-operation.
