    G20/OECD Corporate Governance Forum

    14 July 2022 - The Forum will provide a platform for discussion among G20, OECD and FSB members on the ongoing review of the G20/OECD Principles of Corporate Governance. It will build upon the work already undertaken on the review since its launch in November 2021, and will inform the next steps of the process.

    Navigating beyond COVID-19: Recovery in the MENA Region reflects on the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis on MENA countries and the potential changes it may bring to their reform agendas. It addresses not only the ongoing effects of the crisis, but also examines long-term consequences and identifies emerging new trends. The analysis was completed shortly before the start of Russia’s large-scale aggression against Ukraine, when signs that recovery was already faltering were observed across the world economy. Since then, global growth prospects have been further affected by the war. Still, the policy recommendations to build long-term resilience in MENA countries have not changed. On the contrary, they are all the more pertinent, as many of the challenges ahead come from structural factors. However, realistic strategies will depend on fiscal affordability.

    OECD Secretary-General’s Report to G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors on the Review of the G20/OECD Principles of Corporate Governance

    This report provides an update on progress of the review of the G20/OECD Principles since the Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG) meeting in February 2022, including on first draft revisions. The report “Climate Change and Corporate Governance” prepared to inform the review is annexed. The review will continue throughout 2022 and the revised Principles are expected to be delivered in 2023.

    Remuneration of Boards of Directors and Executive Management in State-Owned Enterprises

    The remuneration of board members and key executives of listed companies has received considerable attention in the past decade. The same issue has yet to be fully addressed in the case of state-owned enterprises (SOEs). This report seeks to fill the gap by taking stock of the policies and practices underpinning the remuneration of supervisory board members and executive managers of SOEs across 36 OECD member and partner countries. It highlights differences in remuneration practices according to countries’ ownership models and the corporate context of SOEs.

    Climate change and low-carbon transition policies in state-owned enterprises

    State-owned enterprises (SOEs) are significant actors across sectors that account for substantial sources of global greenhouse gas emissions, such as energy, transportation and infrastructure. To counter this, increasing numbers of state owners are incorporating environmental and climate-related goals in their SOE portfolios. These efforts go hand-in-hand with broader international commitments and an increasing awareness that governments as enterprise owners should 'lead by example'. Using data collected from 32 jurisdictions, this report describes national approaches towards promoting climate change and low-carbon transition policies in SOEs based on the OECD Guidelines for Corporate Governance of SOEs.
