7th OECD Southeast Asia Policy Network Meeting on Sustainable Infrastructure

Strengthening Governance for Sustainable Infrastructure

The 7th OECD Regional Policy Network Meeting on Sustainable Infrastucture took place virtually on 10 October 2023, chaired by Mr. Sumedi Andono Mulyo, Director of National Priority Infrastructure Projects Development and Planning, Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) of Indonesia.

Governments in the Southeast Asia region gained insights into how to improve their governance for sustainable and inclusive infrastructure systems, ensuring alignment with long-term priorities such as their climate and development objectives. More specifically, the meeting explored how international principles, standards and tools, such as the 2020 OECD Recommendation on the Governance of Infrastructure, can support ASEAN governments in making infrastructure more sustainable. Concrete experiences were showcased from OECD and Southeast Asian countries to demonstrate how infrastructure governance can be put into practice, as well as discussions on the OECD Infrastructure Governance Indicators, which allow countries to benchmark their own practices and institutional arrangements.

About the Regional Policy Network

The OECD Regional Policy Network (RPN) on Sustainable Infrastructure is one of the six Regional Policy Networks of the OECD Southeast Asia Regional Programme (SEARP). SEARP was launched in 2014 to support countries’ reform priorities and regional integration in Southeast Asia. Its RPN on Sustainable Infrastructure assists the efforts of ASEAN Secretariat and ASEAN Member States in implementing the Master Plan for ASEAN Connectivity (MPAC) 2025. The RPN meetings have served as fora for sharing lessons learned and best practices among OECD and ASEAN policy makers.

The Regional Policy Network (RPN) aims to strengthen ASEAN economies’ infrastructure governance frameworks. It supports the ASEAN Secretariat and the ASEAN Member States in establishing a well-connected ASEAN Economic Community and implementing the Master Plan for ASEAN Connectivity 2025. The network’s activities include diagnostic work, tailored advice, comparative data collection, training, and other capacity building activities relating to sustainable infrastructure, capital investment and regional connectivity.
