Countries can opt for a Country Review, which involves an OECD-led review team providing, from an international perspective, an analysis of evaluation and assessment policies in the country, and recommendations for policy development and implementation.
The scope and focus of each review is determined by the country in consultation with the Secretariat, depending on the present arrangements, their strengths and challenges, and country priorities. By providing an external perspective on evaluation and assessment issues, the Country Reviews are also intended to contribute to national discussions and inform other countries about policy innovations underway.
Each country review includes an intensive country visit to fully understand the country’s context, policies and practices and includes meetings with all major stakeholders. After the visit, the review team prepares a Country Review report.
Between May 2010 and 2012, fourteen countries chose to take part in a Country Review:
Australia, Belgium (Flemish Community), Chile, Czech Republic, Denmark, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Slovak Republic, Sweden and the United Kingdom (Northern Ireland).
From 2016, a second series of reviews, building on the conclusions from the OECD Review on Evaluation and Assessment Frameworks for Improving School Outcomes, is being carried out. The Country Review reports, which provide the conclusions of the review team, will be posted on the website as they become available.
