The changing political economy of reform

There is a growing awareness among policy and academic circles that the conditions for reform have changed and that success depends on building and maintaining public support throughout an increasingly interactive process. In a context where the pressure to reform is rising and citizens’ expectations of government are evolving, it is important to understand how social and psychological factors – such as perceptions, attitudes and norms – can be better understood and what role policy advice can play in facilitating successful outcomes.

This workshop brings together policy-makers and practitioners, international institutions and leading academics to discuss emerging key issues in the area of political economy, their implications for reform and their relevance for policy. The main topics will include:

-          What impact have global mega-trends, technological developments and the Financial Crisis had on the political economy of reform? 

-          How can new research on perceptions, attitudes and social norms be used to improve policy-making? 

-          What are the implications of the changing political economy for governments and for the multilateral organisations that advise them on policy?
