Digital goods and services have become much cheaper and more powerful over time

Advances in digital hardware have reduced the costs of collecting, processing and storing data. The cost of both computer processing power and data storage have halved every 15 months in real terms over the second half of the last century while the price of software started falling at a much more moderate rate of about 2% per year from the early 1980s.
