FIFTH MEETING OF THE OECD GLOBAL FORUM ON VAT

20 - 22 March 2019

Around 300 high-level representatives of over 100 jurisdictions, including regional and international organisations, together with business and academia, attended the fifth meeting of the OECD Global Forum on VAT in Melbourne, Australia on 20-22 March 2019.

 

The OECD Global Forum on VAT is a platform for a global dialogue on international VAT/GST standards and key issues of VAT/GST policy and operation.Collaboration at a global level on VAT/GST brings substantial benefits to countries. Not only does it facilitate trade and ease tax administration by enhancing consistent application of VAT/GST, but it also allows them to work together to face common challenges and identify mutually beneficial solutions to improve tax collection.

 

This meeting of the OECD Global Forum on VAT focused on a range of key policy and operational challenges faced by tax authorities in the era of digitalisation and globalisation through two main themes:

 

  • The challenges and opportunities of digitalisation for VAT/GST systems
  • How to effectively tackle fraud and avoidance
