SMEs and entrepreneurship

Blockchain for SMEs and entrepreneurs

Enabling SMEs and entrepreneurs to seize the opportunities opened up by the blockchain revolution can foster access to markets and finance and boost competitiveness.

WHAT'S THE ISSUE?

Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLTs), and Blockchain in particular, have the potential to transform the functioning of a wide range of industries. SMEs and entrepreneurs need to compete in a rapidly evolving technological environment, in which DLTs will likely play an increasing role in the future. Policy makers have an interest in raising awareness and enhancing the uptake of this technology by SMEs and entrepreneurs, as it may lead to overcome longstanding size-related constraints in accessing markets and finance, higher productivity and competitiveness.

WHAT CAN THE OECD OFFER?

We support governments in understanding opportunities and challenges related to the diffusion of Blockchain among SMEs and entrepreneurs, improving evidence about SME adoption and use, analysing impact on entrepreneurship and business models, identifying emerging policy issues and approaches to enable SMEs seize opportunities while mitigating risks. Through country case studies, we help governments and key stakeholders understand and harness the development of national or regional blockchain ecosystems, and we build comparative evidence to support international policy dialogue and knowledge exchange.
