Nadim Ahmad is Deputy Director at the OECD Centre for Entrepreneurship, SMEs, Regions and Cities (CFE), helping to drive momentum in the development of integrated policies that look holistically at people, places and firms, and, in doing so, better policies for better lives, and resilient and sustainable economic growth.

Before joining CFE in 2020, he worked in the OECD’s Statistics and Data Directorate, where he led international efforts to better account for globalisation, entrepreneurship and business performance, and, in particular, the role of MNEs and SMEs in global value chains, and the OECD’s Directorate for Science  Technology and Innovation, where he developed the OECD’s first estimates of carbon dioxide emissions embodied in international trade.

Prior to joining the OECD, Mr Ahmad worked in the UK’s office for National Statistics (1996-2000) and the UK’s Ministry of Finance (1993-1996).

ABOUT THE CENTRE FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP, SMES, REGIONS AND CITIES (CFE)

The Centre provides comparative statistics, analysis, policy advice and capacity building. It helps local and national policy makers in OECD countries and many developing countries work together to unleash the potential of entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), promote inclusive and sustainable regions and cities, boost local job creation, and implement sound tourism policies. It includes the Secretariats serving the Regional Policy Development Committee (RDPC) and its three Working Parties on Urban Policy, Rural Policy and Territorial Indicators, the Working Party on SMEs and Entrepreneurship (WPSMEE), the Tourism Committee and the Local Economic and Employment Development (LEED) Directing Committee.

The Centre also manages several initiatives and networks that bring together national governments, mayors and other local leaders, economic development practitioners, business leaders and entrepreneurs, and social innovators. They include: the Champion Mayors for Inclusive Growth, the Roundtable of Mayors and Ministers, the Water Governance Initiative, the World Observatory on Subnational Government Finance and Investment, the OECD Forum for Local Development Practitioners, Entrepreneurs and Social Innovators, the Venice Office on Culture and Local Development, and the Trento Centre, which provides capacity building to local and national stakeholders.
