Antón Leis García

 

Antón Leis García is Counsellor to the Office of the Secretary-General.

In his role he works closely with the Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff to provide strategic advice and pivotal co-ordination to oversee the work of OSG. He will provide substantive input to enhance OSG’s outputs and deliverables to ensure the advancement of the Strategic Orientations of the Secretary-General and the implementation of the Organisation’s Programme of Work and Budget.

He returned to the OECD in June 2020 as Advisor to the Secretary-General, having been on secondment as Senior Advisor in the Cabinet of the Spanish Prime Minister, where he was Spain’s G20 Sherpa Assistant and advised the Prime Minister and his Sherpa on G20 and other multilateral matters.

During his secondment, he was also Senior Advisor to the Secretary of State for Development Co-operation in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He previously served as Policy Advisor in the OECD Sherpa Office where he was responsible for the co-ordination of the OECD’s participation in the G7, including the Deauville Partnership, as well as various G20 work streams. Mr Leis García joined the OECD in 2015 as Project Co-ordinator in the Eurasia Division of the Global Relations Secretariat, where he worked on economic competitiveness and SME development matters. As a specialist on economic governance and private sector development, Mr Leis García has spent most of his career working in international development, having held positions at the African Development Bank and the World Bank. He started his career as an associate in a global law firm.

A Spanish national and an Overseas Citizen of India, Antón Leis García has a double Master’s Degree in Public Administration (MPA) from IEP Paris (France) and the London School of Economics (UK). He also has a Master of Laws (LLM) from Harvard Law School (USA) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from Universidad Carlos III, Madrid (Spain).
