Renato Pedrosa is the Director of Admissions and Co-ordinator of the Group of Studies in Higher Education at Unicamp, located in Campinas in Brazil. He has a degree in Electronic Engineering and a PhD in Mathematics. Professor Pedrosa has been involved in areas related to higher education, including access/admissions policy (as research co-ordinator and director of admissions at Unicamp), in which he researched how performance of students relates to their various socio-economic characteristics. As a result of that, Unicamp has developed an affirmative action program that has served as model for many other Brazilian universities. He has also taken part in the development of a long-term plan for the higher education system in São Paulo, which recommended the expansion of the public vocational system.
