Màrius Rubiralta I Alcañiz is the Secretary General of Universities at the Ministry of Education, after being State Secretary of Universities in the Ministry of Science and Innovation. He was professor of organic chemistry at the pharmacy faculty of the University of Barcelona. From 1994-2001, he was Vice-rector of Research of the University of Barcelona. He was Director of the Barcelona Science Park from 2002-05 and from 2005-08, he was Rector of the University of Barcelona. He is an author of more than one hundred publications in international journals and  the book Transfer of Research University: European Models and co-author of the book Piperidine Preparation, Reactivity and Synthetic Applications of Piperidines and its Derivatives. He is responsible for the new Spanish Strategy University 2015 to modernise Spanish Universities and of the programme International Campus of Excellence which is developing a new model of a university campus committed to the socio-economic development of the environment.
