Jordi W. Carnes is the First Deputy Mayor of Barcelona and Town Councillor in charge of Finance and Economic Promotion. He is President of Barcelona Activa, 22@, Mercabarna and Institut Municipal de Mercats; and  Vice-President of Institut Municipal d'Hisenda de Barcelona (Municipal Institute of Finance for Barcelona) and Barcelona Port Authority. He is Second Vice-President of  the Barcelona Tourism Board and Barcelona Serveis Municipals (a municipal company in charge of local services and infrastructures related to mobility and leisure). He is also Deputy of the Diputació de Barcelona, a local government institution of the Barcelona Metropolitan Region since November 2009. During 1984-2000 he held  different posts in Diputació de Barcelona.  He was Director of Rural Development (2003 until April 2006) and Minister of the Department of Agriculture and Fishing (2006) of the Government of Catalonia.
