Summary
The Global Forum rated Malaysia overall Largely Compliant with the international standard on transparency and exchange of information upon request, concerning requests handled from 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2017. Since its last review in 2014, Malaysia had addressed deficiencies then identified, including addressing the issue of non-compliance of dormant companies, clarifying the process to exchange banking information, and improving communications among authorities. Some further improvements are recommended in this report. Malaysia should take measures to ensure beneficial ownership information of all entities is always available and the related AML supervision and enforcement should continue to be strengthened. Malaysia responded to 155 requests during the review period and sent 34 requests, and peers are overall satisfied, but Malaysia should ensure all requests are always managed in a systematic, timely and efficient manner.
