Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes

Global Forum Secretariat organises global event focused on exchange of experiences and knowledge on information security

19/10/2023 – On 18 October 2023, the Secretariat of the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes (Global Forum) organised the Information Security Management (ISM) Day 2023, a virtual event focused on information security management for tax administrations. The 5-hour event was attended by 570 tax officials from 121 jurisdictions.

The event aimed to promote the sharing of experiences and knowledge among information security and information technology professionals from Global Forum member jurisdictions. It covered multiple topics such as information security governance, cyber risks, implementation of a secure perimeter for the automatic exchange of information and secure remote working.

Through four interactive panel discussions, 13 experts from 12 jurisdictions (Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Cook Islands, Ecuador, Georgia, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom and United States) discussed concrete information security topics and shared their valuable experiences with the large audience. Participants could also exchange on their daily experiences and share good practices in dealing with evolving threats and risks, through interactive sessions and instant surveys.

The Global Forum Secretariat is focused on providing continuous support to Global Forum members in the implementation of ISM, which is critical in cross-border exchange of information for tax purposes. New ISM tools are regularly made available to member jurisdictions, including toolkits, templates, guidance documents and e-learning courses. Through its ISM Network, its quarterly live hour events and the annual ISM Day, the Secretariat is encouraging members to continuously further their ISM practices, so as to establish adequate levels of information security across all tax administrations and regions of the world.

The Global Forum is the leading multilateral body mandated to ensure that jurisdictions around the world adhere to and effectively implement both the exchange of information on request standard and the standard of automatic exchange of information. These objectives are achieved through a robust monitoring and peer review process. The Global Forum also runs an extensive capacity-building programme to support its members in implementing the standards and help tax authorities make the best use of cross-border information sharing channels.

The Global Forum capacity-building programme is supported by the following development partners:
