Global Forum Secretariat assists Tanzania in the implementation of the standard on transparency and exchange of information on request

20/02/2023 - As part of its technical assistance programme for Tanzania, the  Global Forum Secretariat (Global Forum) held awareness discussions with Tanzanian public agencies on the benefits of international co-operation on tax transparency on 13-17 February 2023, in Dar Es Salaam, Dodoma and Zanzibar. The talks also served as preparation for Tanzania’s upcoming Phase 2 peer review on the transparency and exchange of information on request (EOIR) standard.

The Global Forum capacity-building team met with officials from various agencies involved in ensuring the availability, access and exchange of information on request in Tanzania. These included the Ministry of Finance, the Tanzania Revenue Authority, the Financial Intelligence Unit, the Bank of Tanzania, the Business Registrations and Licensing Authority and the Registration Insolvency and Trusteeship Agency. The team also met with officials from Zanzibar (President’s office, Attorney General’s office, Zanzibar Business and Property Registration Agency and Registry of Non-Governmental Organisations).

These exchanges allowed the team to explain the scope of the EOIR standard to participants, including its benefits for Tanzania and the importance of the peer review process to level the playing field in the global implementation of the standard. The different parties were also briefed on their roles and responsibilities in the process and encouraged to take specific actions to ensure a successful Phase 2 peer review on the implementation of the standard in Tanzania.
