Global Forum launches Uzbekistan’s induction programme

21/11/2022 - A delegation led by the Head of the Global Forum’s Secretariat, Ms Zayda Manatta, visited Uzbekistan on 17 and 18 November 2022. The purpose of the visit was to welcome Uzbekistan, which joined the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes (Global Forum) in May 2022 as 164th member, and to discuss the next steps on the country’s tax transparency journey.

Several high-level meetings were organised, including with the Deputy Finance Minister, Mr Dilshod Sultanov, the Chairman of the State Tax Committee, Mr Sherzod Kudbiyev, as well as with the Deputy Minister of Justice, the First Deputy Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank.

Following the high-level meetings, a technical meeting was held with relevant stakeholders to explain the benefits of the Convention on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Tax Matters, the Standard of transparency and exchange of information on request (EOIR) and the Standard for Automatic Exchange of Financial Account Information in Tax Matters (AEOI). The delegation also presented the technical assistance available to Uzbekistan to implement the standards and benefit from them in its domestic resource mobilisation strategy. Uzbekistan will undergo its peer review against the EOIR standard in 2025.

The Global Forum is the leading multilateral body mandated to ensure that jurisdictions around the world adhere to and effectively implement both the exchange of information on request standard and the standard of automatic exchange of information. These objectives are achieved through a robust monitoring and peer review process. The Global Forum also runs an extensive capacity-building programme to support its members in implementing the standards and help tax authorities make the best use of cross-border information-sharing channels.
