Egypt receives support from Global Forum on Tax Transparency and the UK for the preparation of its peer review

 

17/03/2020 - The Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes (the Global Forum) and Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) of the United Kingdom carried out an on-site visit in Cairo on 2-5 March 2020 to assist Egypt prepare for its peer review assessing its compliance with the international standard of exchange of information on request. This review, which is based on strengthened terms of reference for Global Forum peer reviews including availability of and access to beneficial ownership information, is scheduled to be launched during the second quarter of 2021. Egypt joined the Global Forum in 2016 and committed to implement the exchange of information standards.

During their visit, Mr Jon Swerdlow and Mr David Yellowley (UK HRMC), Mrs May Abo Ghally (OECD) and Mr Hakim Hamadi (Global Forum) met with the Committee set up by Egypt for the implementation of the exchange of information standards as well as several representatives of Egyptian Authorities such as the Central Bank of Egypt, the Anti-Money Laundering Authority, the General Authority for Free Zone and Investment, the Ministry of Justice and the Egyptian Tax Authority.

The assistance provided by the Global Forum to Egypt is funded by the European Union.
