Director General for Social Inclusion and Social Policies in the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies (since 2006). Main responsibilities are in the area of policies against poverty and social exclusion, children rights, people with disabilities, social aspects of long term care, management of national funds for social assistance policies.

M.Sc. in Economics at the London School of Economics and Ph.D. in Economics at the University of Pavia, he joined the public administration in 1999 as Senior Economist in the Dept. for Economic Affairs of the Prime Minister’s Office, working mainly in the area of welfare and labour market policies.

He is Italian representative in the Social Protection Committee of the EU. He chaired the EU Task-force that produced the Report Growth, Jobs and Social Progress (2009).

He published a number of articles and reports in the area of social policies.
