Ján Porubský was born on September 14, 1947 in Bánovce nad Bebravou. In 1971 he graduated at the Faculty of Medicine of Comenius University in Bratislava. In 1976 he acquired I. degree specialty in pathological anatomy and in 1997 he acquired II. degree specialty in pathological anatomy. In 1989 he defended PhD. title and in 2004 he was appointed to associate professor in the field of pathological anatomy and forensic medicine.

Since 1970 he continuously worked in the Institute of Pathological Anatomy of the Faculty of Medicine of Comenius University and in the University Hospital in Bratislava. He worked at several posts as a vice-dean for development and social issues of the Faculty of Medicine of Comenius University (1991-1997), as a member of Scientific Board at the Faculty of Medicine of Comenius University (1991-1997), as a chairman of Ethic Committee of the Faculty of Medicine and University Hospital in Bratislava (1997- July 2010), as a member of Supervisory Board of General Health Insurance Company (2002-2004), as a vice-chairman of Management Board of Health Care Surveillance Authority (2004-2007).

Assoc. prof. Ján Porubský, MD, PhD., is a member of the Committee of Slovak Society of Pathologists within Slovak Medical Society, member of Slovak Neurological Society within Slovak Medical Society and a member of International Academy of Pathologists (IAP). He is a prize-holder of specialized society for the best publication of the year 1989, holder of Guoth Prize for the set of publications dedicated to trophoblastic disease (1994), and a holder of Commemorative Medal of the Faculty of Medicine of the Comenius University within 80th anniversary of the Faculty foundation.

Mr. Porubský was approved to the post of the State Secretary of Ministry of Health by the government on July 9, 2010. He is married and has 3 children.
