“Let’s Talk Together (about Migration)”

SIMI (Association for Integration and Migration/Sdružení pro integraci a migraci), Czech Republic

Launched in 2018

The “Let´s Talk Together (about Migration)” project is a part of work done by the Association for Integration and Migration (Sdružení pro integraci a migraci, or SIMI) around inclusion in the schools of Prague and Central Bohemia.

The first community event, organised by SIMI in co-operation with the Prague Humanities Gymnasium, took place at the end of the school year, one in which pupils of Prague schools had the opportunity to meet and talk with migrants and SIMI workers on the topic of migration and refugees. The event featured migrants from countries such as Mongolia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ukraine, or Mexico, who prepared workshops on cultures and points of interest about their countries.

SIMI has a long history of educating the public on migration and refugees and creating opportunities for joint encounters and understanding between migrants and Czech society. It aims to raise awareness among students of all ages and their teachers about migration and to involve them in the process of local integration, in direct contact with migrants. SIMI also organises teacher trainings on migration and integration issues.

“We strive convey the topic of refugees and migration to students and to explain some basic terms, as well as to use situational examples to convey the problems that foreigners have to face in our country. Working with young people is especially important since developing the formation of positive approach to strangers contributes to general elimination of stereotypes and biases in the majority of our society.
