Webinar - Low Performing Students: Why They Fail and How to Help Them Succeed

Poor performance at school has long-term consequences for individuals and countries. Students struggling at age 15 face a high risk of dropping out of school altogether and when a large share of the population lacks basic skills, a country’s long-term economic growth is severely compromised. Why do some students struggle at school and what can be done to help them? These questions are central to “Low Performing Students: Why They Fall Behind and How to Help Them Succeed”, the first in-depth analysis of the factors affecting low performance and recommendations on what countries can do to tackle them. The report will be available from 3 a.m. ET on February 10, 2016.

Based on new analysis of previously published PISA datasets, Chapter 1 gives an overview, together with new findings on the absolute number of low performers in OECD and partner countries, as well as overlapping of low performance in mathematics, reading and science. Chapters 2, 3, 4 and 5 contain entirely new findings that explain the link between low performers and students’ attitude to school, their own backgrounds and school characteristics.

You are invited to attend a webinar with Andreas Schleicher, Director of the OECD Directorate for Education and Skills, and PISA Analyst Daniel Salinas, who will present the findings of this new OECD report.
