OECD Expert Briefing: Digital Economy - Outcomes of the OECD Ministerial

 

Join us on June 29 at the OECD Washington Center for a discussion of the outcomes of the June 2016 OECD Ministerial Meeting on the Digital Economy: Innovation, Growth and Social Prosperity, featuring remarks by Andrew Wyckoff, OECD Director for Science, Technology and Industry, as well as other distinguished speakers.

Ministers and stakeholders have gathered in Cancun, Mexico this week to discuss moving the digital agenda forward in four key policy areas at the foundation of the digital economy: 

  • Internet openness 
  • Digital trust
  • Global connectivity
  • Jobs and skills

On June 29, Andrew Wyckoff, OECD Director for Science, Technology, and Innovation and Anne Carblanc, Head of the OECD Information, Communications and Consumer Policy (ICCP), will present the outcomes of the Ministerial, live by video from OECD headquarters. Amy Alvarez, Executive Director, International External Affairs for AT&T, will talk about the Hackathon contest held in association with the Ministerial, organized by the Business and Industry Advisory Committee (BIAC) to the OECD.

The digital economy permeates the world economy. Information is flowing within and across borders with unprecedented pace and volume with significant impact on innovation, trade, global value chains and society as a whole. Few aspects of our lives remain untouched by digitalization.


Meeting these challenges requires collaboration amongst all stakeholders – citizens, firms and governments - to develop new, economy wide approaches to digital economy policy development. Ministers and stakeholders gathered in Cancun, Mexico June 20-23 for an OECD Ministerial Meeting on the Digital Economy: Innovation, Growth and Social Prosperity, to discuss moving the digital agenda forward in to move the digital agenda forward in four key policy areas foundational to the growth of the digital economy. Internet openness is high on policy agendas; digital trust needs to be strengthened; global connectivity is reaching an unprecedented scale, while jobs and skills are being radically transformed.
