Valentine Sendanyoye Rugwabiza

Valentine Sendanyoye Rugwabiza currently occupies the post of Deputy Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).  In this role, which she took up in October 2005, Mrs. S. Rugwabiza's responsibility covers the development dimensions of multilateral trade rules;  the Trade Facilitation negotiations;  the WTO's Institute of Training and Technical Cooperation;  and the work programme on Aid for Trade.

Prior to joining the WTO as a deputy to Director General Lamy, Mrs. S. Rugwabiza was the Rwandan Ambassador to the WTO and in that capacity co-chaired, with Mrs. Mia Horn af Rantzien who was the Ambassador of Sweden to the WTO at that time, the first informal group of WTO Members on Aid for Trade, the conclusions of which were an instrumental contribution to the subsequent Hong Kong Ministerial mandate on Aid for Trade in December 2005.
