Jim Redden is the Director of International Programs (Asia-Pacific) and a Senior Lecturer at the Institute for International Trade, based at the University of Adelaide in South Australia.

 

In his capacity as Policy and Research Director for the Australia Council for International Development, Mr. Redden served on the Australian Trade Minister’s WTO Advisory Committee for a number of years and was part of the Australian Government’s official delegation to the WTO Ministerial meetings in Doha and Cancun.  He has worked closely as a consultant with the current Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd and former Australian Trade Minister, Mark Vaile advising the Australian Government on a range of international trade issues of particular concern to low income communities in developing countries.  He has undertaken a wide range of research projects on trade related capacity building of particular relevance to Small and Vulnerable Economies in the Pacific and lectures at the University on international trade and development issues.

 

Mr Redden has worked extensively throughout Africa, Asia and the Pacific, in his earlier days as an aid worker, and over the past 15 years as an economist and policy advisor.  He has worked with the public, private and non-government sectors and as a belated academic is particularly interested in further research on trade policy challenges confronting Pacific Island Countries and the role of trade as a key factor in contributing to more even growth and more equitable wealth distribution.
