Carlos Herran, Senior Economist, Inter-American Development Bank

A human development economist with 15 years of international development experience, I have worked on both sides of the table, alternating between government positions in planning and education (principal advisor to the Ministry of education in Colombia) and a career in international organizations, both in policy research, as well as in operations. I bring strong analytical and applied research skills focusing on Education, Human Development, Labor Markets, Poverty and Inequality issues, as well as hands on experience in policy making in developing countries and 12 years of project work in Latin America and the Caribbean. I have excellent oral and written communication and language skills blended with an understanding of different cultures and institutional settings, and the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams on complex social policy topics ranging from teacher careers and incentives to targeting of cash transfers.
