Strengthening Youth Participation in Local Governance

 

Workshop, 8-10 May 2018, Gammarth, Tunisia 

 

In the framework of the MENA-OECD governance programme and in collaboration with the Tunisia Observatory of Youth (ONJ) and the Tunisian Institute for Democracy and Development (ITDD), the OECD organised a three-day capacity-building workshop on youth participation in local governance. As an activity of the 6th Mediterranean University on Youth and Citizenship (MedUni) which took place in Tunis from 7-12 May 2018, the workshop gathered young participants from Tunisia, Morocco, Jordan, Slovenia, Spain and Portugal, as well as experts from the OECD and a peer from the UK.

 

Objectives

This capacity-building workshop aimed to enhance participants' knowledge of participative tools and good governance, particularly at the local level. The workshop focused specifically on:

  • Mobilising youth to effectively engage in local governance
  • Enhancing youth skills and perceptions to influence policy processes
  • Supporting youth in sharing good practices and lessons learned on social accountability
  • Introducing practical solutions to policy implementation and monitoring municipality governance
  • Promoting networking, building networks around participative local governance
