Supporting SME competitiveness in Armenia

Launched in February 2014, the Armenian project of the OECD Eastern Europe and South Caucasus Initiative seeks to improve the competitiveness of key sectors of the Armenian economy, with a particular focus on Small and Medium Enterprises. The project is conducted in collaboration with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), and with the financial support of the European Union.

The overall project is steered by the Minister of Economy, while two public-private working groups have been created involving public sector representatives, experts and the local business community to develop policy recommendations on two important policy areas:

Armenia - Key facts

Armenia is ranked 37th in the World Bank  ‘Doing business’ report

In 2005, it took 19 days and 8 procedures to start a business. Eight years later, it only takes 8 days and 2 procedures

The results of the project will be presented  by a delegation from the Armenian government at the OECD Eurasia Competitiveness Roundtable to take place in November 2014. The Roundtable will bring together high-level representatives from across the Eurasia region and OECD member countries that will peer review and provide feedback on the outcome of the project work.
