The 2023 annual meeting of the OECD/INFE Project on financial literacy in the countries from the Constituency programme of the Netherlands’ Ministry of Finance, launched the second phase of the project (2023 – 2027).

Co-hosted by the Netherlands’ Ministry of Finance and its MoneyWise platform, the annual meeting was opened by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the Netherlands, Ms. Sigrid Kaag and the OECD Secretary-General, Mr. Mathias Cormann. Her Majesty Queen Máxima who is the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development (UNSGSA) and Honorary Chair of the MoneyWise platform provided a keynote address, elaborating on her work related to financial health and resilience and cutting across topics like digitalisation, vulnerable groups and cross sector collaboration.

Governors, deputy governors and state secretaries from project countries took stock of the new challenges and strategic priorities in project countries, at an opening panel which set the stage for the ensuing discussions.

Participants from the region, together with global financial education experts, and representatives of the Netherlands and the OECD Secretariat reflected on financial literacy as a means of addressing financial vulnerability and foster financial well-being. The following meeting sessions touched on a host of issues identified as a priority by project countries, such as financial education for children and young people, and innovative approaches to financial education.

Participants were also hosted on the premises of the MoneyWise platform to learn about the resources, organisation, expertise and planning approaches to the Netherlands’ nationwide financial education programme. Split into groups, they engaged in interactive discussions on the research, project management and communication work carried out by the respective teams of MoneyWise.
