BA in Sociology entitled at the Catholic University of Chile and Ph.D. in Sociology, graduated at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris.

She has worked as professor at the Catholic University and has been teaching in the Master of Public Policy and Management, Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Chile.

She  was General Director for Social and Cultural Council of the Municipality of Santiago between 1990 and 1994; Chief of Programs Department of the Fund for Solidarity and Social Investment, FOSIS, of the Ministry of Planning (MIDEPLAN) between 1994 and 1995; and she also served as a research worker at the Economic Research Corporation for Latin America, CIEPLAN, between the years 1996 and 1997 where she also worked in the decade of the'80s.

In the same way she carried out tasks as a research worker and consultant for Development Consulting, from 1998 to 2006.

In March of that year she was appointed by the President of the Republic, Michelle Bachelet in the office of Undersecretary of Administrative and Regional Development  under the Ministry of the Interior, work developed until December 2008 when she was appointed as Minister of Labor and Social Affairs.
