IDFC Climate Finance Forum

 11 November 2017 Hilton Hotel, Frankfurt - 9:30-17:00

IDFC Climate Finance Forum (supported by the OECD)

The International Development Finance Club (IDFC) – a network of national development banks from around the world – hosted its flagship annual Climate Finance Forum in the margins of COP23. The 2017 Climate Finance Forum was hosted by KfW in Frankfurt on 11 November 2017 with the OECD supporting the event as a partner.

Discussions focused on how to align today's decisions and actions with long term impacts from the perspective of both financial institutions and decision makers and planners in cities and communities. Today's decisions have impacts in the long run. While there is urgency to act by financing and implementing the NDCs, ensuring that the decisions we take today are compatible with and can lead to the longer term climate mitigation and adaptation objectives proves absolutely crucial.

The Forum’s panel sessions focused on:

  • Decision making in financial institutions – Dealing with uncertainty and long term impacts
  • Decision making in cities and communities – Shaping the future to accommodate billions of new urban dwellers
  • Scaling up adaptation finance – Ensuring resilient infrastructure, programs and policies

OECD roundtable on development banks and green investment

Back-to-back with the Forum, the OECD is organising an invitation-only roundtable which will bring together a small group of leading experts from development banks and development finance institutions on the changing role of these institutions in scaling up green investment in developing countries in the context of the new development landscape. The discussions will inform future OECD work on the role of development banks and financial institutions in scaling up green investment in developing countries.
