The OECD actively participated in the 2018 World Water Week on the theme “Water, ecosystems and human development” through a series of events and by taking part in a number of workshops and seminars throughout the week:

Sunday 26 August
- Seminar: Pharmaceuticals: Scientific developments and cost-effective policy responses (16h-17h30, Room FH 300)
This session brought new knowledge on how pharmaceuticals affect freshwater ecosystems. It explored robust guidelines and innovative policy responses, which build on comprehensive frameworks and scientific developments, including advanced monitoring methodologies.
Monday 27 August
- Session: Blended finance: From principles to practice (14h-15h30, Room FH 300)
Drawing on the OECD Blended Finance Principles and a diverse set of case studies from Asia and Africa, this session explored how blended finance instruments and mechanisms can be designed to mobilize additional commercial finance. It also explored how water-related investments can benefit from the recent developments in blended finance, the prerequisites to make it work at scale, and the ways to engage development finance institutions and private financiers.
Wednesday 29 August
- Session: Follow up on the High-Level Panel Water: Financing & Valuing (14h-15h30, Room NL Pillar Hall)
This session engaged key actors from public and private finance institutions, governments, NGOs to identify the most promising ways forward to implement the recommendations of the High Level Panel on Water as regards valuing and financing water.
