Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes

Global Forum delivers a seminar to assist Dominican Republic to fight tax evasion

The seminar, organised by the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes took place on 15-19 September 2019 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. It has provided an opportunity for tax auditors to focus on the connection between the domestic tax investigation and information gathering framework and the international infrastructure for exchange of information. The aim was to introduce tax auditors to the exchange of information (EOI) infrastructure that has been developed over the last few years and that Dominican Republic will benefit from with its recent ratification of the Convention on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Tax Matters.

The seminar was delivered by Jose Mejia, Tax Policy Advisor of the Global Forum and Wanda Montero, Tax Policy Advisor of the OECD Transfer Pricing Unit.

Tax auditors were encouraged to make effective use of these EOI tools by increasing the number and quality of outgoing requests to their treaty partners. The seminar strengthened awareness among auditors that protection of domestic revenue is closely linked with the effective use of the EOI network. This programme had the participation of more than 40 officials from the Dominican Republic Tax Administration, including auditors from the Large taxpayers office, investigations and intelligence officers and staffs working on exchange of information and as well as from the Tax Policy Department of the Dominican Republic Ministry of Finance.
