Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes

2021 Global Forum plenary meeting

ABOUT

Due to the ongoing health crisis, and in a spirit of inclusion, the 2021 Global Forum plenary meeting was held virtually from 17 to 19 November 2021.

  • DAY 1 was broadcast live - Focusing on the celebration of the 10th anniversary of our capacity-building programme, discussions featuring high-level speakers revolved around the role multilateral co-operation in transparency and exchange of information to support a fair and inclusive recovery.

  • DAYS 2 and 3 were open to members and observers only - Discussions took stock of the work carried out in 2021 in the various Global Forum work streams (Automatic Exchange of Financial Account Information, Exchange of Information on Request, Confidentiality and Data Safeguards, Task Force on Risk) and looked at future challenges. Dedicated sessions served for the adoption of documents.

GLOBAL FORUM CAPACITY-BUILDING ACTIVITIES: 10 YEARS OF PROGRESS

Since 2011, the Global Forum has delivered a capacity-building programme to support the implementation and effective use of the two global standards on transparency and exchange of information by its developing members. Our activities are empowering jurisdictions in their fight against tax evasion and other illicit financial flows, and ultimately helping them enhance their domestic resource mobilisation.

Today, more than half of the 163 Global Forum members are developing countries. Our programme ensure that they are not left behind, and that they fully benefit from the remarkable progress achieved in transparency and administrative co-operation over the past decade. To that end, the Global Forum Secretariat works closely with regional and global partner organisations. Through awareness raising at political level, training of thousands of officials, the development of tools and high-standard technical assistance, the dynamic of change is progressing and more developing jurisdictions are reaping the benefits of a more transparent tax world.

We asked selected jurisdictions to tell us how the Global Forum's capacity-building activities have helped them progress in their efforts to fight tax evasion and enhance domestic resource mobilisation. Watch our video to find out more:

The delivery of the Global Forum’s capacity-building programme is only made possible thanks to the financial support and the trust of our donor partners:
