These high-level tax events to the 2017 ECOSOC Forum on Financing for Development follow-up were organised by the OECD in partnership with UN-DESA and UNDP. They brought together senior level figures from governments, regional tax organisations and civil society to discuss the developments of the Addis Tax Initiative and the TIWB Initiative. 

 


How the Global Landscape on International Tax Co-operation changed since Addis

This side event, organised by the OECD in partnership with UN-DESA, took place on 23 May 2017 from 13:15-14:30 in Room CR-7, United Nations Headquarters, New York, United States.

The global landscape in the fight against cross-border tax avoidance and tax evasion has changed dramatically since the third International Conference on Financing for Development held in Addis Ababa in 2015. A panel of senior experts discussed the progress made by the UN and the OECD since the Addis call for more inclusiveness, both in terms of institutional arrangements and policy guidance, to support developing countries in coping with the challenges posed by international tax avoidance and evasion.

Supporting domestic resource mobilisation through Tax Inspectors Without Borders

This side event, organised by the TIWB Secretariat in partnership with OECD and UNDP, took place on 23 May 2017 from 13:15-14:30 in Room CR-12, United Nations Headquarters, New York, United States.

Tax Inspectors Without Borders (TIWB) is a joint initiative of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) supporting developing countries to build tax audit capacity. The TIWB Initiative
facilitates targeted, highly specialised tax audit assistance and is an innovative and practical way of supporting developing countries to mobilise more domestic resources for development. This side event gave opportunity to learn more about TIWB and hear first hand from countries that have benefited from TIWB assistance.

The TIWB Annual Report 2016/17 was also launch during this side event.
