The OECD has developed a new tool, the OECD Consumer Barometer that further exploits and visualises consumer confidence data. The indicator, expressed as the monthly growth rate of the normalised consumer confidence indicator (CCI), has been designed with a view to clarity and reactivity in our presentation of measures of consumer sentiment.

Nowadays, policymaking and economic analyses rely heavily on statistics and international comparisons. The demand for high-frequency, reliable but also easily accessible data is increasing. To respond to this demand, the OECD has created the Short-Term Indicators Dashboard, covering G20 countries and selected regional aggregates. It allows users to follow key macro-economic developments using interactive charts and tables.

The recent economic and financial crisis has increased the spotlight on the OECD’s CLI and indeed broadened its base of users beyond its traditional specialised audience. To respond to the needs of this broader base, the OECD has decided to produce this note that provides a more accessible and less technical explanation of the CLI and the ways in which it should be interpreted.

Statistics Working Paper N. 49 - 2012/5 - We estimate the business-cycles of G7 countries, as defined by an ideal 2-10 year bandpass filter applied to country-specific GDP target series (GDP-BP). The paper shows that efficiency gains by the Multivariate Direct Filter Approach (MDFA)over HP are substantial along the full revision-sequence and they are consistent across countries as well as over time, when referenced against GDP-BP.
