OECD and the Municipality of Metepec launch, the new on-line registry for formalities

Municipality of Metepec, 12 January 2015

The OECD Regulatory Policy Division and the Municipality of Metepec launched, the new on-line registry for formalities. In accordance with best international practices among OECD countries, the new website organises formalities by “life events”, which facilitates the search of information for citizens and entrepreneurs, and reduces the cost of regulatory compliance.

On the website, formalities are categorised by common activities, such as formalities for work and business, for housewives and families, or for vulnerable groups. At the federal level in Mexico, some of the efforts that have been made to organise government formalities and services by “life events” is the webpage that concentrates on federal formalities for business start-ups, and the one-stop shop for foreign trade that consolidates import and export formalities. At the international level, countries like the United Kingdom with and Australia with are representative examples of this type of initiatives.

The website is one of the results of the co-operation between the OECD and the Municipality of Metepec for the improvement and simplification of municipal formalities. In his speech, Manuel Gerardo Flores, Senior Economist, emphasised that is the first of its type at municipal level to organise formalities by “Life Events” in Mexico and he encourages other Mexican municipalities to follow the example established by Metepec. The launching was also hosted by Rafael Gomez Escalera, Municipal President by law appointment of Metepec;  Ivette Franco, Director of Government  Innovation of Metepec, and by other directors of the municipal office.
