The Contribution of International Organisations to a Rule-based International System

New York, United States, 10 April 2019

On 10 April 2019, OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría launched a brochure building on and synthesising the results of a collective effort of some 50 secretariats of IOs working together since 2014 on the quality of international rulemaking. This brochure highlights key features of the international rulemaking and standard-setting landscape, sheds light on how international rulemaking functions, and identifies areas where both IOs and countries could take steps to improve the results.

The Brochure is the focus of discussions in the 6th annual meeting of the partnership of international organisations for effective international rulemaking. For the event, 23 international organisations have gathered at the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) to reflect on the landscape and functioning of international rulemaking and the importance of developing transparent and evidence-based international rules to address the issues affecting the citizens.
