Revised Guidance Document 150 on Standardised Test Guidelines for Evaluating Chemicals for Endocrine Disruption

This guidance document was originally published in 2012 and updated in 2018 to reflect new and updated OECD test guidelines, as well as reflect on scientific advances in the use of test methods and assessment of the endocrine activity of chemicals. The document is intended to provide guidance for evaluating chemical using standardised test guidelines.

Guidance Document on Good In Vitro Method Practices (GIVIMP)

GIVIMP aims to reduce the uncertainties in cell and tissue-based in vitro method derived predictions by applying good scientific, technical and quality practices from method development to implementation for regulatory use. Test method developers and test guideline users will find best practices for designing guideline in vitro methods, carrying out safety tests and assuring quality and scientific integrity of the resulting data

Call for data on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) and alternatives

The OECD is aiming to collect data for a new report on PFASs and Alternatives - Commercial Availability and Current Uses. A questionnaire is available to provide information on current uses of alternatives to PFASs on the following sectors: textile and shoes, firefighting foam and food packaging. Industry, public authorities, NGOs and academia are invited to participate. Please note that the deadline for response is 31 July 2018.

Safety Assessment of Transgenic Organisms in the Environment, Volume 8 - OECD Consensus Document of the Biology of Mosquito Aedes aegypti

Volume 8 of the Series contains the first biosafety ‘consensus document’ to deal with the biology of an insect, the mosquito Aedes aegypti. Issued by the OECD Working Group on the Harmonisation of Regulatory Oversight in Biotechnology, the science-based consensus documents collate information for use during the regulatory risk assessment of biotechnology products, i.e. transgenic organisms (plants, animals, micro-organisms) when intended for release in the environment. Ae. aegypti mosquito is vectoring yellow fever, dengue, Zika and Chikungunya diseases in tropical and sub-tropical regions worldwide. Biotechnological applications are developed to control the mosquito population and reduce virus transmission. The book provides information on Ae. aegypti taxonomy, morphology, life cycle, reproductive biology, genetics, ecology, interactions with other species and the environment. The mosquito effects on human and animal health, and the control strategies/specific programmes to limit its development are also summarised.

Safety Assessment of Transgenic Organisms in the Environment, Volume 7 - OECD Consensus Documents

Volume 7 of the Series compiles the OECD consensus documents for use in environmental risk assessment of transgenic organisms (biosafety) issued in 2016 and 2017. The first two chapters cover the biology of plant species (sorghum and tomato) and include elements of taxonomy, centres of origin, reproductive biology, genetics, outcrossing, crop production and cultivation practices, interactions with other organisms, main pests and pathogens, and biotechnological developments. The third chapter relates to Atlantic salmon, the first OECD biosafety publication to address an animal species. It describes the biology and ecology of wild salmon (including classification, life stages, reproduction, centres of origin, geographical distribution, population dynamics, interaction with other organisms) and of the farmed form (domestication, aquaculture rearing practices, biocontainment, interactions with the external environment). It also provides elements of genetics, research on genetically engineered salmon and resources for its risk assessment.

Portal on Per and Poly Fluorinated Chemicals

Per- and poly-fluorinated alkyl substances (PFASs) are substances that have many manufacturing and industrial applications because they impart useful properties (fire resistance and oil, stain, grease and water repellency). Some of the properties are associated with environmental and human health concerns. To support a global transition towards safer alternatives, this Portal facilitates the exchange of information.
