OECD will support Peru's water regulator in improving regulation

Lima, Peru 10 December 2019

Peru's Water Regulator (SUNASS) has started implementing regulatory impact analysis, which seeks to enhance the quality of regulations affecting the provision of water services in Peru, benefiting citizens and businesses. OECD, PCM officials and SUNASS Executive President, Ivan Lucich were present at the launch.

Regulatory Impact Analysis (RIA) will allow SUNASS officials to follow a guide to ensure that the regulations they issue improve water services effectively, and that the benefits from adopting regulation are larger than the costs of implementation and compliance. In addition, RIA will provide clear guidance so that citizens and businesses can participate in the development of rules and regulations.

As part of the co-operation with SUNASS, the OECD will:

  • prepare a manual for the RIA
  • conduct a training workshop for SUNASS workers, and
  • advise on the elaboration of RIAs

These activities will be carried out with the help of international experts from the water regulators of Mexico and Scotland.
